While still studying at Cambridge, he began moonlighting writing articles in the genre of film criticism, which were published in Kinematograph Weekly since 1924. In 1927, he moved to Hollywood, taking a job as a correspondent for the New York Sun and Film Weekly. In 1930 he returned to London as a press agent for Sam Goldwyn.
Cedric Henning Belfridge was born in Marylebone, London, on November 8, 1904 in the family of a doctor. He attended Gresham's School, Holt, Norfolk, then attended Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
