Cedric Gibbons, born Austin Cedric Gibbons, was born on March 23, 1893, in Dublin. He held United States citizenship and pursued his education at the Art Students League of New York. Gibbons had multiple occupations, including architect, scenographer, and film director. He was one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is known for designing the Oscar statue. Gibbons died on July 26, 1960, in Hollywood.
Throughout his career, Cedric Gibbons directed several films, including The Bridge of San Luis Rey, The Merry Widower, Pride & Prejudice, Blossoms in the Dust, Little Women, and An American in Paris. He also directed American Ninja 4: The Annihilation.
Gibbons received awards at the Faro Island Film Festival and from the Online Film & Television Association. He was related to Dolores del Río, Hazel Brooks, Veronica Cooper, and Billy Gibbons.
