The Center for Digital Health Innovation at the University of California, San Francisco is an accelerator program working to help develop emerging healthcare technologies in the healthcare ecosystem developed at the University of California, San Francisco. The CDHI works to develop health and health technologies that can be accessible to anyone. To help incubate those ideas, the program includes design thinking, lean product management, and agile development to develop solutions across the UCSF and to other healthcare institutions through licensing or commercialization partnerships.
The core capabilities of CDHI that they can help bring to participants of their program include product management, where CDHI offers digital product managers with experience in design thinking, product management, and user-centered design; analytics, where the CDHI offers an analytics team with data analytics and data visualization experts to help with data management and analytics, health care data and databases, data warehousing, quality assurance, and clinical informatics; program and project management, which includes a team capable of helping participants with the full life cycle of project management; data science, where CDHI can help participants with artificial intelligence and machine learning applications; and technical development and integration where the CDHI offers software engineering for mobile, web, and API development for serverless cloud computing or legacy virtual machine architectures.
This has included work the CDHI has done in digital patient experience projects, patient access tools, virtual care tools, critical care software suites, employee health screeners, data interoperability solutions, and artificial intelligence solutions for discovering the right treatments for patients.
The CDHI also works to build digital health policy across key issues or venues, including digital health strategy and policy for the United States. This includes programs to help advance interoperability, access, and delivery reform for patients, providers, and consumers. Included are the following focus areas of this policy work:
- Interoperability and health information exchange
- Patient access and use
- Patient-generated health data
- Health disparities and equity
- Social determinants of health
- Shared care planning
- Delivery system reform
The CDHI extends participation in the technology incubator to any internal applications, such as any UCSF students or faculty, to which they offer funding and mentorship to help develop a product; they extend participation to industry partners to which the CDHI offers come of its core capabilities and collaboration opportunities.
