The company is headquartered in Beijing, China and was founded in 2002.
In September 2016, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation announced the world's first long-range quantum radar. The Chinese government claimed their quantum radar had a maximum effective range of 61 miles, making it the longest range quantum radar product in the world. In 2015, a study was published titled "Microwave Quantum Illumination," which demonstrated a quantum radar with a maximum effective range of below 7 miles making the Chinese governments quantum radar have a maximum range that was 54 miles larger than what was previously possible.
The Chinese government officially displayed their quantum radar prototype at the 2018 Zhuhai Airshow without out publicly available research to back the performance claims of their quantum radar technology. The claims made by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation have been criticized. According the MIT professor Set Lloyd, who is credited with setting the scientific foundations of quantum radar in his 2008 paper titled "Enhanced Sensitivity of Photodetection via Quantum Illumination," told reporters that the Chinese government did not release any details supporting their quantum radar claims and that quantum radar technology is currently not viable for defense purposes.
