Chloroquine phosphate is the phosphate salt of chloroquine. It is a quinoline compound with antimalarial and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroquine phosphate if found under the drug name Aralen.
Chloroquine phosphate was shown to inhibit infection in cell culture with the SARS-CoV-2 virus which is responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic and is being tested in COVID-19 clinical trials. A less toxic derivative of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine sulfate, is also being investigated as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
