Chris Columbus is an American filmmaker born on October 9, 1958, in Spangler, Pennsylvania. He is a citizen of the United States and is known for his work as a screenwriter, film director, film producer, writer, and executive producer. Columbus attended John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio, and later went on to study at the Tisch School of the Arts.
In his career, Columbus has directed numerous films, including the first two films in the Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Other notable films directed by Columbus include Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Mrs. Doubtfire, Bicentennial Man, Stepmom, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and The Goonies - which he also created.
Columbus founded the production company 1492 Pictures, which has produced several films he has worked on. Additionally, he has been a member of the board of directors for the film Only the Lonely.
