Compact Fusion Systems is a company developing compact modular fusion power cores for the US and international utility markets. Their power cores aim to produce 50-500 MWe at less than 5c / kWh whilst producing zero CO2 emissions and having an operational lifetime of over 25 years.
Compact Fusion Systems was awarded a grant by the Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy (DOE ARPA-E). The grant will support the technical development of a fusion power core with the target of it becoming commercial availability in 2030. They have also received support from the New Mexico Economic Development Department by participating in the Small Business Assistance program.
Compact Fusion Systems was founded in 2017 by Simon Woodruff (CEO), Ronald Miller (Economics Lead), and Peter Turchi (CTO). The company is headquartered in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
