Count Basie

Count Basie, born William James Basie on August 21, 1904 in Red Bank, New Jersey , was an American bandleader, composer, musician, songwriter, and actor. He was best known as a pianist and an organist.

Basie was proficient in genres such as jazz, big band, and swing music . He was also known by the pseudonym Count Basie.

Throughout his career, Count Basie received numerous awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Improvised Jazz Solo , the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album , the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award , and the Grammy Trustees Award .

Count Basie passed away on April 26, 1984 , in Hollywood, Florida .
