Ray Lennox is a detective inspector with Lothian and Borders Police who is trying to recover from a mental breakdown caused by stress, cocaine and alcohol abuse, as well as a child murder case in Edinburgh, in which he was the lead investigator, taking a vacation in Florida with his fiancee Trudy. The couple meets Eddie "Ginger" Rogers, one of Lennox's retired former colleagues, and his wife Delores, and they all drink until early in the morning.
