The project appeared in the spring of 2005 and began to develop actively in the fall of 2005. Focused on Ukrainian software developers.
The site consists of the following sections:
- forum,
- news feed,
- columnists
- work,
- events.
The "Jobs" section is designed to publish vacancies from IT companies. The last section publishes announcements of events related to information technology.
The site is also known for conducting various surveys and research. Quarterly, IT companies are ranked by the number of employees. From 2010 to 2011, the portal conducted a survey once a year to determine the best employers among IT companies. Since October 2010, the DOU.ua portal has also been conducting a survey of the salaries of IT workers.
In June 2011, with the support of the portal, the first DOU Hackathon (24-hour programming marathon) was held. It took place in Kyiv. After that, from 2011 to 2012, hackathons were repeatedly held in Lviv, Odesa, Donetsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. Since 2013, the DOU Hackathon has changed the format according to which anyone can hold it in their city with the support of the DOU.
