David Card is a Canadian economist born in Guelph in 1956. He holds citizenship in Canada and is currently located in the country. Card received his education at Princeton University. He has made empirical contributions to labour economics and is recognized for his work in the fields of economics and labour economics.
Card has been awarded the 2021 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, John Bates Clark Medal, Frisch Medal, and BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award.
During his academic career, Card was advised by Orley Ashenfelter. He has also mentored several doctoral students, including Xu Zheng (Eastern Wu), Kristin Butcher, Joshua Angrist, Christoph M. Schmidt, Thomas Lemieux, Maria Horvath, Anne Piehl, and Enrico Moretti Polegato.
