The etymology of the theonym Dazh(d)ibog, at first sight, is quite obvious. According to M. Fasmer, the name is explained from Old Russian imperative "give" and *bogъ "happiness, prosperity" (cf. rich, wretched), i.e. Dazh(d)ibog - "giving prosperity".
