The software equips companies with actionable insights for the following:
- Understanding and predicting store conversion by using real-time shopper tracking, and correlating it to time of day, retail location, marketing events, and weather
- Leveraging customer traffic patterns for optimal placement of store associates during the day, to influence sales
- Obtaining a deep understanding of in-store behavior—high traffic and high dwell time departments, wait and service times
- Saving on payroll costs by automating processes and optimizing services for peak hours
Launched in May 2022, Checkout IQ is Deep North's retail loss prevention solution, which uses computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to help retailers reduce shrinkage at checkout and self-checkout. By analyzing camera views, the application identifies items that are being scanned by the customer or the cashier, and this count is cross-referenced with the POS item count to detect any discrepancies.
In September 2022, Deep North announced a partnership with Dell Technologies, in which the company would combine its artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision capabilities with Dell's edge computing technologies. As part of the partnership, the companies jointly demonstrated their combined technology at Groceryshop 2022 in Las Vegas in September 2022.
Deep North completed a Series A raise in 2020 for $25.7 million and a subsequent Series A-1 raise in 2021 for $16.7 million. The Home Depot and Delta Airlines joined Engage Ventures in the 2020 Series A round, and Deep South piloted its software at The Home Depot. Additionally, the company has two paycheck protection program (PPP) loans, for $453K in 2020 and $539K in 2021.
Deep North was established in 2016 as VMAXX and changed its name in 2018. The company was founded by its CEO, Rohan Sanil, and Dr. Jinjun Wang, who was CTO until exiting the company in April 2020 shortly after the company completed its Series A raise and the COVID-19 pandemic began.
