Defy Partners is a venture capital and private equity firm providing early stage venture capital that is headquartered in San Mateo, California and was founded in 2017 by Neil Sequeira and Trae Vassallo. The company provides leading series A funding between $3 million and $10 depending on the business model they are investing in.
On November 16, 2017 Defy Partners announced closing their debut venture capital fund with $151 million in funding. At this time the company announced that the fund will be focusing on making series A investments, and they expect each of their investments to be between $3 million and $7 million.
On April 10, 2019 Defy Partners announced raising their sophomore fund with $262 million in venture capital. The company also announced bringing two more partners, Brian Lee and Sujal Patel, into their business to help the firm invest and guide the companies portfolio. Neil Sequeira, a co-founder of Defy Partners, made the following comments regarding the companies decision to bring aboard Lee and Sujal as venture partners:
Raising the next round of financing is hopefully something we can be helpful with. That’s always been expected from venture partners but it’s not everything, it’s what a good venture person can help you with besides just money that matters. Sophisticated entrepreneurs know it’s about more than just money.
