Biography

Deontay Wilder was born on 10/22/1985 in the USA, in the small town of Tuscaloosa, in the west of Alabama. The guy saw his future in sports in American football or basketball (height 2 meters), but fate brought him to the boxing gym when Deontay was already 20 years old. Life circumstances forced me to put on boxing gloves – I needed money for the treatment of my daughter, who was born with a serious spinal disease.

At first, Wilder did not think about the highest sporting achievements (he counted on the modest role of a journeyman), but it quickly became clear that there was serious potential in the newcomer – after 2 years of training, Deontay won the prestigious Golden Gloves tournament, a year later he became the winner of the US amateur championship, and in 2008 he went as part of the national team to the Olympics in Beijing, where he won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 91 kg.Having "lit up" in the world amateur ring, Wilder became an attractive fighter for professional boxing promoters and in November 2008 signed a contract with Oscar De La Hoya's company, Golden Boy Promotions.

The main weapon of the "Bronze Bomber", a lightning knockout swing, worked flawlessly among professionals, leveling frankly weak technical equipment. Caring little about defensive actions, Wilder simply "swept away" his rivals, having won, until 2015, 32 early victories in 32 duels. According to experts and famous boxers who had to experience the blow of Deontay Wilder, his power significantly exceeds the power of punchers such as the Klitschko brothers, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.For the first time, the "Bronze Bomber" went the entire distance of the fight in a duel for the World champion title according to the World Boxing Council, on 17.01.2015, defeating Canadian Bermane Stiverne, by unanimous decision. Wilder successfully defended his championship belt 10 times, including in a rematch with Stiverne, whom he knocked out in the 1st round. Among the contenders who could not resist Wilder's knockout "bombing" were top heavyweight division fighters - Arthur Shpilka, Gerald Washington, Dominic Breazeale and previously undefeated Cuban veteran, Luis Ortiz (lost to Wilder twice, by technical knockout, in 2018, and by knockout in a rematch, in 2019.01.12.2018 Deontay Wilder met with the former heavyweight lineal champion, the undefeated Briton, Tyson Fury. The "Gypsy King" turned out to be an extremely uncomfortable opponent - despite the fact that Deontay knocked his opponent down twice, the fight ended in a draw (SD).A rematch was scheduled, in which everything ended lamentably for the "Bronze Bomber– - Fury dominated from the opening rounds, and in the 7th sent the American into a deep knockdown, after which Deontay's second threw in the towel. This defeat was the first and only one in Wilder's career that required another fight with the "offender". It is not yet known when and with whom Deontay Wilder will hold the next fight, because Tyson Fury intends to fight for the title of absolute world champion with his compatriot, Anthony Joshua.
