Douglas Hyde

Douglas Hyde (born January 17, 1860 in Castlerea, and died July 12, 1949 in Dublin)() was a notable politician, poet, and writer from the Republic of Ireland and the Irish Free State(). He was also the founder of Conradh na Gaeilge, an organization dedicated to the preservation of the Irish language(). As an individual, Hyde is considered an important figure in Irish history and culture().
