Douglas M. Leone is an American billionaire venture capitalist and managing partner of Sequoia Capital.
Leone was born in Genoa, Italy. His family moved to the United States when Leone was 11 years old and settled in Mount Vernon, New York. Leone received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1979, a master's degree in industrial Engineering from Columbia University in 1986, and a Master's degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988.
Leone began his career in sales and executive positions at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and Prime Computer.
He joined Sequoia Capital in 1988, became a managing partner in 1996 and became a global managing partner in 2012.
He led Sequoia's international expansion into China and India.
Leone was responsible for investments including Service Now, Aruba, Meraki, Rackspace, Netezza, Arbor/Hyperion, RingCentral and MedExpress.
He is on the board of directors of PlanGrid , Nubuck , Medaille , ZirMed, ActionIQ, Numerify and Lattice Engines.
In 2020, he was included in the Forbes list of billionaires with a fortune of 3.5 billion US dollars and ranked 538th.
Leone is married to Patricia Perkins-Leone. The couple has four children and they live in Atherton, California.
