The Dutch East India Company, also known as VOC , was a public company founded in the Dutch Republic on January 1, 1602 . It was established by Johan van Oldenbarnevelt , who was also one of its key people . The company's headquarters were located at Oost-Indisch Huis , which also served as its primary location . The Dutch East India Company operated in the trade industry and was organized as a company and an organization .
The company had a subsidiary, the Dutch West India Company , and owned numerous ships, such as Batavia, Amsterdam (VOC ship), Zuytdorp, Eendracht (1615 ship), and Prins Willem . Other ships in its fleet included Hollandia (1742 ship), Rooswijk, Vergulde Draeck, Zeewijk, 't Wapen van Hoorn, Fortuyn (ship), Aagtekerke (ship), Arnhem (ship), and Mauritius (1618 ship) . In addition, the company owned Meermin (VOC ship), Westerbeek, VOC ship Landskroon, VOC ship Akerendam, and Diemermeer (1736) .
The Dutch East India Company eventually closed .
