Élie Metchnikoff (born May 3, 1845, and died July 2, 1916) was a Russian Empire-born biologist, chemist, physician, microbiologist, physiologist, and inventor(. He held citizenship in both the Russian Empire and France.
Metchnikoff received his education from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, and the University of Göttingen. Throughout his career, he studied under the tutelage of Louis Pasteur and later mentored several doctoral students, including Jules Bordet, Waldemar Haffkine, and Alexandre Besredka. Élie Metchnikoff passed away in Paris on July 2, 1916.
