Eadweard Muybridge was born on April 9, 1830, in Kingston upon Thames , with the birth name Edward James Muggeridge . He was a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and later the United Kingdom . Muybridge worked as a photographer and film director and was known by the nickname "Father of the Motion Picture" .
He is best known for his notable work, Sallie Gardner at a Gallop , a sequence of photographs that captured the motion of a running horse. This groundbreaking innovation contributed to the development of cinematography. In recognition of his achievements, Muybridge was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2011 .
