Early Warning Services, LLC, is a financial technology company owned by seven banks. For almost three decades, their identity, authentication and payment solutions have been helping financial institutions to make confident decisions, enable payments and mitigate fraud. Today, Early Warning is best known as the owner and operator of the Zelle Network®, a financial services network focused on transforming payment experiences.
Early Warning is a limited liability company owned by Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Those financial institutions - as well as hundreds of others across the country - exchange information and knowledge to obtain a single view of fraud activity across the enterprise and manage fraud on a cross-institution basis.
Started in 1990 as a deposit risk management solution, Early Warning Services was a model to share data to mitigate deposit losses. During this decade, Early Warning Services launched their first check deposit and check payment validation products. From 2001 to 2005 Early Warning Services added account fraud detection services and fraud data sharing.
The Early Warning brand was unveiled along with identity risk solutions and real-time check deposit and account opening services between 2006 to 2009. In 2010 to 2012 they added high-risk transactions alerts to identity theft agencies and introduced asset verification services. Between 2013 to 2014 they added features to their mobile suite with near a dozen new releases. And between 2015 to 2018 they began to offer layered multi-factor authentication through a single integrated platform and introduced Zelle Network, their first real-time payments service.
In 2016, Early Warning Services acquired clearXchange, a digital payments network allowing users to send money to anyone with a United States bank account. As part of the acquisition, clearXchange became a subsidiary of Early Warning Services.
In November 2018, Early Warning Services acquired XOR Data Exchange, a leading data firm giving users transparency, accountability and control back to data owners.
