Elihu Root (born February 15, 1845) was an American lawyer, politician, and diplomat. He was born in Clinton, Oneida County, New York, and was the son of Oren Root II. Elihu Root had two children, namely Elihu Root and Edward Root.
Root received his education at Williston Northampton School, and later attended Hamilton College in New York, Columbia University, and New York University School of Law. Throughout his career, he worked as a lawyer, politician, and diplomat.
In recognition of his work, Elihu Root was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912. He passed away on July 2, 1937, in New York City.
