American political economist
Elinor Ostrom (born Elinor Claire Awan) was an economist born on August 7, 1933, in Los Angeles, California. She was a citizen of the United States. Ostrom studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills High School. She was known for her work on the Institutional Analysis and Development framework and her book, Governing the Commons. Ostrom focused primarily on economics, public economics, and public choice theory as her academic disciplines.
In 2009, Ostrom received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, making her a Nobel laureate. She passed away on June 12, 2012, in Bloomington, Indiana.
