Elisabeth Moss is an American actress who managed to make a dizzying career, win the hearts of fans around the world and become the owner of the Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
Elizabeth Singleton Moss - this is the full name of the actress - was born July 24, 1982 in Los Angeles. The girl's parents were close to bohemian life: her father produced jazz bands, organizing recordings and concerts. Mom, on the other hand, played the harmonica masterfully, preferring blues melodies. Both parents professed the principles of Ron Hubbard's Scientology.
As a child, Elizabeth did not plan to become an actress, she was much more fond of dancing and studied at the School of American Ballet. However, the more roles she received, the more clearly it became clear that the girl was waiting for an acting career. For many years, Elizabeth honed her dancing skills, and as a teenager, she even went to New York to enter the famous ballet school.
As a result, Elizabeth was not even able to finish school in the usual way - due to her large career, she was forced to switch to home schooling and take exams externally. After some time, Elizabeth began to be invited to various films, however, so far the aspiring actress got only episodes and minor roles. Moss also voiced the heroine of the animated film Once Upon a Time in the Woods.
Elisabeth Moss grew up, and the scale of the projects in which she participated grew with her. In 1999, she landed the role of the president's daughter, Zoe Bartlett, on The West Wing. In the same year, she was invited to star in the famous film Girl, Interrupted with Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder.
There Moss played a girl disfigured by burns. Moss got the role of one of the patients in a psychiatric hospital. Her heroine was constantly in sadness or crying, so the shooting was not easy for the actress psychologically, so Elizabeth was happy with the next project, The West Wing (1999), because she played a much more positive young lady - the daughter of the president, Zoe Bartlet.
The TV series Mad Men (2007) helped Moss really become famous. She brought to the screen the image of Peggy Olson - a girl who changed before the eyes of the audience along with the development of the plot, very advanced for her time and never ceases to amaze. This character, which inspired many viewers, was a symbol of a woman fighting for the right to work on an equal footing with men in America in the 60s.
Moss's character is far from being a sex bomb, she dresses modestly and is completely devoid of any "glamour". However, Elisabeth Moss is not embarrassed.
In real life, I have no problems with this, I dress beautifully, I often go out. So I'm not obsessed with how the heroine looks. For me, the main thing is her character, not her style of clothing. If they give me a role for which only appearance is important - okay, I will take it, but it is much more interesting to play a real person. Showing character development, how they react to dramatic circumstances, means a lot more to me than being able to wear nice clothes, high heels and tight dresses on set. (According to Elisabeth Moss)
In parallel with her work in Mad Men, Elisabeth Moss played in the Broadway production of Move, and also starred in several episodes of various films. In 2007, the girl appeared in the cult series Grey's Anatomy, and in 2009, the actress's filmography was replenished with the film The Morgans on the Run, where Moss got the role of the assistant to the heroine Sarah Jessica Parker.
In 2010, Moss starred in the comedy film Escape from Vegas, playing the wife of outrageous artist Aron Greenberg (Russell Brand). In 2013, the series "Top of the Lake" was released, where Elizabeth got the main role.
Were in the career of Elisabeth Moss and unsuccessful work. So, in 2014, the Broadway production of "Chronicles from the Life of Heidi", in which the actress was busy, was closed due to insufficient interest from the audience. However, Moss' game did not go unnoticed: the girl was nominated for a Tony award. True, the coveted prize at that time went to another actress - Helen Mirren.
In 2015, Moss made her Broadway debut in the play Chronicles of the Life of Heidi. She was nominated for a Tony, but Helen Mirren took the statuette from the ceremony for The Audience.
Another strong role and a new round of fame is the series The Handmaid's Tale (2017). A dystopia about the strength and weakness of women, about time and cruelty, about struggle and obedience brought Moss many awards, including the Golden Globe: in the nomination, she bypassed Claire Foy, the winner of the previous ceremony.
This series was an adaptation of the dystopian novel by writer Margaret Atwood.
The dramatic events of The Handmaid's Tale did not leave the audience indifferent. Only a few, including the main character Fredova (ie, owned by a man named Fred) played by Moss, have retained the ability to give birth to children. Such women live as servants in the homes of the military, who have usurped power in this country, and after the birth of a child, they go to serve another man. Elizabeth's partners on the set were Max Minghella, Samira Wiley, Joseph Fiennes.
Not forgetting about the theater and television, Elizabeth began to give preference to the full meter. She chooses provocative and unusual projects, such as The Square (2017) with Claes Bang or The Old Man with a Gun (2018) with Robert Redford.
Moss is an avid theatergoer and tries to attend all the high-profile premieres of the season. The actress went to Ann several times with Holland Taylor as Texas Gov. Ann Richards. Elizabeth believes that the theater districts of large cities are much more attractive for walking than parks and squares.
- Moss is a workaholic. According to colleagues, for example, Joseph Fiennes, she is one of the first to come to the site. In between filming, the girl is happy to perform producer functions and attend business meetings. At the same time, additional duties and extra shifts do not burden her at all.
- The actress considers herself a member of the feminist movement
- Moss's favorite outfits are pink chiffon dresses. She often appears in these on the red carpet and other social events. Periodically, stylists are advised to wear cocktail dresses or something more classic, Elizabeth does not argue, but during the next public appearance she returns to her favorite style again.
- In the future, Elisabeth would like to work with Morion Cotillard, as well as directors Martin Scorsese and Baz Luhrmann.
Elizabeth is a Scientologist. In 2008, the actor Fred Armisen, known to viewers on the television show Saturday Night Live, appeared in Elizabeth's personal life. In 2009, Moss agreed to become the wife of her lover. The wedding took place in New York.
However, the marriage did not last even a year - already in the summer of 2010, Moss and Armisen broke up, and in 2011 their divorce was officially formalized. The couple had no children.
From 2012 to 2015, the actress dated Australian cameraman Adam Arkpaw.
In a 2018 interview, Elizabeth admitted that she has a hard time dating new men, but hinted that she would not mind getting married and having a baby.
