Emil Kraepelin (1856-1926) was a psychiatrist from the Weimar Republic , highly recognized for his work in the classification of mental disorders and the development of the Kraepelinian dichotomy . Born in Neustrelitz , he attended Leipzig University , University of Würzburg , and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich .
Kraepelin was under the guidance of his doctoral advisor Wilhelm Wundt , often considered the father of experimental psychology. In turn, Kraepelin also mentored doctoral student Ernst Kretschmer . Emil Kraepelin's knowledge and expertise in psychiatry had a significant impact on the field, and his ideas are still influential in modern psychiatric research.
At the end of his life, Kraepelin passed away in Munich on October 7, 1926 .
