Emily Scott, also known as Emily Cinader and Emily Woods, is a United States-based entrepreneur and businessperson. One of the most well-known companies she founded was J. Crew.
After graduating from the University of Denver in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in marketing, Scott's career began in 1983 when she joined her father, Arthur Cinader, as founders of their new casual apparel company, J. Crew. She acted as CEO of the company from 1983 until 2003. Scott was also the director of J. Crew from 1992 until 2006, when she left the company. During her time at the company, Scott was known for having the vision for the design of the clothing for J. Crew and also for recruiting established professionals in the fashion industry to grow the company.
In addition to her work in various positions at J. Crew, Scott has sat on the board of several companies, including Sears Holdings (starting in 2007) and Yankee Candle Company (starting in 1999). She has also contributed to several companies that were founded by her partner, Tom Scott, including Plum TV and Nantucket Nectars.
