Emmanuel Nnamdi Michael is a Nigerian human resources manager and the current head of human resources at Letshego, a Nigerian microfinance bank, a position he assumed since June 2016, until his appointment, he was the Head, Human Resources at Accion, Microfinance Bank Limited from January 2011 to May 2016.
Emmanuel Michael is a native of Umuezegu Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area in Abia, Nigeria. From 1983 to 1987, he had his secondary school education at New Extension Advancement Institute, Kaduna. From 1994 to 1995, he obtained an Advanced Certificate in Management Studies from Kaduna Polytechnic with Upper Credit. From 1997 to 1998, he obtained an Advanced Diploma in Information Management from Obafemi Awolowo University with Credit.
From 2005 to 2006, he obtained a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Frederick Taylor University. In 2008, he obtained a Certificate in Leading Change & Innovation from The Management Centre Europe (MCE). From 2008 to 2010, he went to Cornell University where he obtained a Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Management. In 2012, he went to Lagos Business School where he did a program in Managing People for Strategic Advantage (MPSA). In 2014, he went to The School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University, where he did a programme in Using Social Media for Profitable Employee Engagement and also The School of African Microfinance where he obtained a Certificate in Building High Performance Microfinance Institutions in the same year. In 2015, he did an intensive six-day course in Strategic Leadership in Inclusive Finance at Harvard Business School Executive Education.
Emmanuel has married twice with no children. He first marriage was on 14 December 2001 to Mercilina Aghunofua Braimoh, who died on 21 June 2016. His second wife is Doris Alagboso. They had their Traditional Marriage ceremony on 2 November, 2013 in Lagos, Nigeria and White wedding on 14 February 2015 at Baíe Lazare, Victoria, Mahé Island, Seychelles.
He started his career at Afri-Projects Consortium, where he worked as an Administrator from July 1991 to Dec 1996 and also as a Technical Assistant (Projects Execution) from January 1997 to April 2000. He moved to Integrated System Solutions Limited (ISS), where he worked from May 2000 to November 2003 as Manager, Administration. He moved to Le Méridien, Abuja where he worked as an Assistant Human Resources Manager from November 2003 to July 2005, Ag. Human Resources Manager from July 2005 to December 2005, and also as the Director of Human Resources from January 2006 to January 2007.
He moved to Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, where he worked as the Director of Human Resources from February 2007 to December 2008. From February 2009 to December 2010, he moved to African Sun Limited, where he worked as the Human Resources Manager, Nigeria and West Africa. He worked at Accion Microfinance Bank Limited as Head, Human Resources from January 2011 to May 2016, until he left to join Letshego, Microfinance Bank Nigeria, where he has been working since June 2016.
In November 2010, he joined Coleman Research Group as an executive forum member. On 3 February 2016, he was invited for an interview by The Punch Newspapers Nigeria, where he spoke about the need for the Nigerian federal government to review the labour act of the country. On 1 December 2016, during the time Nigeria was in Recession, he was invited as a speaker to the 4th Human Resources Boot Camp that was organized by Kendor Consulting in Lagos, Nigeria, where he talked about how Nigeria could come out of recession. In 2018, he was selected as a member of the panel of judges for the 2018 Lotus Awards in United Kingdom.
On 6 February 2018, he was a speaker at the #TalentTechEvolve, hosted by the Indian HR media platform People Matters. He was invited to the 6th edition of (SMWL) Social Media Week Lagos 2018 which was hosted by Obi Asika, where he was one of the speakers at the event. On 5 March 2018, a popular Nigerian Job website, myjobmag.com, featured him in an article titled “Career Advice from 40 Top HR Professionals in Nigeria”, where he was number 5 among the 40 featured.
From 6 to 8 March 2018, he a speaker at People Matters Talent Tech Evolve Virtual Conference, hosted by Indian People Matters, where he talked about Cracking the code of employee experience. On 18 July 2018, he was invited by Mactay group as a panelist to the second edition of their learning session for human resources managers. On 9 October 2018, he talked with Amy Turner and Catherine Coats of G&A Partners about managing conflicts in companies at their Salt Lake City office in Utah, USA. On 7 March 2019, he was selected as one of the panelists in the first HR workshop, organized by a loyalty, rewards and online gifting company, SureGifts.
He has been certified with notable certifications such as Senior Professional in Human Resources - International, SPHRi (USA), Human Resource Professional License (HRPL), Member Chartered Institute Of Personnel Managers (MCIPM), Member of Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (MITD), Microfinance Certified Banker (MCIB).
In September 2004, he was awarded with a Superior and Distinctive Service Award by the African Union and Le Méridien, Abuja, Nigeria. In 2017 when he was the Acting CEO & Head of Human Resources, Letshego Microfinance Bank, Nigeria, they won an award of Excellence at the New Age Banking Summit 2017 which held in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2018 and 2019, he was awarded the 100 Most Influential Global HR Leaders and 101 Global HR Heroes awards respectively by the World HRD Congress, an award presented by Dr. R. L. Bhatia.
