The Ukrainian State Enterprise National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” was established in October 1996. The company operates four nuclear power plants with 15 power units, among which 13 power units are VVER-1000 and two power units VVER-440 with a total installed capacity of 13,835 MW, 2 hydraulic units of Tashlyk PSP with an installed capacity of 302 MW, and 2 hydraulic units of Oleksandrivka HPP with an installed capacity of 11.5 MW. Energoatom provides about 55% of Ukraine’s need for electricity, during autumn-winter periods this figure reaches 70%.
In June 2019, Energoatom, the State Scientific and Technical Center on Nuclear Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) and Holtec International signed an agreement to establish an international consortium to implement Small Modular Reactor technology SMR-160 in Ukraine.
- Zaporizhzhya - is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, located on the bank of the Kakhovka reservoir in the Zaporizhzhia region.
- Rivne - located near Varash in the Rivne region, it is the first nuclear power plant with the VVER-440-type reactors (pressurized water reactor type) in Ukraine.
- South-Ukraine - located in the north of the Nickolaev region, it is the only Ukrainian enterprise that utilizes basic nuclear and generating pumped-hydro storage facilities, and also water resources of the river Yuzhnyi Bug.
- Khmelnytsky - located in the central part of the Western Ukraine, on the border of three oblasts Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and Ternopil. The plant operates three VVER-1000 reactors
