The GP7000 is developed, manufactured and marketed by Engine Alliance, a joint venture of GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney. The GP7000 is used in the long-haul sector and powers the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. It is derived from two of the most successful widebody engine programs in aviation history - the GE90 and PW4000 families. The GP7000 impresses with its low fuel consumption, weight and noise emission.
Together with its partners GE, Pratt & Whitney and Safran Aircraft Engines, MTU is involved in the development and manufacture. MTU is responsible for the development and manufacture of the low-pressure turbine in the Pratt & Whitney part and for the development and manufacture of the turbine center frame as well as for the manufacture of high-pressure turbine components in the GE part.
An aftermarket share was also agreed as part of the Pratt & Whitney part. The low-pressure turbine's maintenance activities are carried out by MTU in Munich.
