An event refers to a happening, social gathering, or occasion, especially one that is noteworthy; event also means an expected or potential outcome (i.e., in the event of)
Types of events
- Ceremony: a ritualistic or symbolic event to acknowledge or celebrate something. Examples of common ceremonies include weddings, funerals, graduations, and baptisms. Award ceremonies recognize talent and achievement in various categories; they are common in the entertainment industry.
- Festival: a gathering of people to celebrate something cultural. Festivals are often community-based. Common festival themes are food, music, movies, history, and religion.
- Party: a social gathering for entertainment or celebratory purposes, sometimes to celebrate other events such as birthdays, graduations, victories, and important happenings.
- Convention: a gathering of people who share a recognized interest or hobby. Conventions are intended for people to practice the interest and converse with other attendees about it.
- Sporting event: a competitive athletic game or series of games intended for spectator entertainment.
- Happening: any sort of occurrence, especially one that is deemed important or notable.
