Evernym is a software company that develops an open source sovereign identity block chain. It features a turnkey solution for hosting and managing sovrin nodes, trust anchor for creating identities for organizations, messaging stack for secure data exchange, API suite and GUI tools for issuing and verifying digital credentials, and interoperating with other distributed ledgers.
In 2016, the company launched Sovrin, a platform and identity network helping organizations store and verify digital credentials. In 2020, Korean tech company LG CNS announced a collaboration with Evernym to develop an international ID card system to make a blockchain-based authentication system with the ability to substitute driver licenses and passports.
The company created Hyperledger Indy and the Sovrin Network, is a co-creator of the cheqd Network, and a primary contributor to Hyperledger Aries and Ursa. Evenym also created a verifiable credential platform, Verity, which powers live deployments within finance, healthcare, travel, education, and government. Evernym is a co-editor of the Verifiable Credential spec at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The company also co-authored and co-edited the Decentralized Identifier spec, and served as a co-chair of the W3C’s DID and VC Working Groups.
Evernym creates decentralized identifiers for open-source projects and efforts like International Air Transport Association’s Travel Pass. That pass is a digital credential that allows airlines and governments to verify travel and health documents, including COVID-19 test results. The startup has also participated in projects like the Trust Over IP Foundation, the Decentralized Identity Foundation, and the Good Health Pass Collaborative.
On December 9, 2021, Avast—a cybersecurity and privacy company established in 1988 in Prague, Czech Republic— announced their intention to acquire Evernym.
