A program led by Airbus attempted to develop a composite passenger aircraft seat without success between 1998 and 2002.Zodiac Aerospace unveiled in 2014 a full composite seat below the threshold of 4 kg (8.8 lbs) in partnership with HexcelHexcel. As of 2015, this seat had not yet been certified.

This seat passed the "16g" certification in July 2015. The company has filed 15 international patents.

Expliseat launched the TiSeat E1 in 2013 for Airbus A320 familyAirbus A320 family aircraft. In 2015, the seat was marketed for ATR regional aircraft, and in 2016 to Dassault Falcon business jets. In 2018, Expliseat is launching the TiSeat E2, marketed for the Boeing 737 and Bombardier Q400.
