Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is an open—world Action/RPG computer game, the third game in the Fallout series. It was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Media. Fallout 3 was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles, as well as for personal computers running Microsoft Windows. The game was released on October 28, 2008 in the USA, October 30 in Europe and Australia and December 4 in Japan. During 2009, five additions to the game were released, published in Russian by 1C.
Fallout 3 takes place in the same post—apocalyptic world as in other parts of the Fallout series, in the year 2277 - 200 years after the nuclear war of 2077. As in the previous games in the series, Fallout 3 features a network of underground shelters built by the Vault-Tec corporation, as stated, to save some of the American population from the consequences of the war. The main character of the game, a lonely wanderer, spent his childhood in an isolated shelter No. 101 near Washington, the capital of the United States. When his father unexpectedly leaves the shelter, a lonely wanderer goes in search of him. Destroyed by a nuclear war, Washington and its surroundings represent an open world through which the game character can travel freely, independently finding new interesting places and tasks. Unlike the previous games in the series, Fallout 3 gives the player the opportunity to control a character with a first-person view in real time, and the game contains elements of a shooter; a special "V.A.T.S. system" allows you to pause the fight to choose a specific opponent and a specific body part to attack. As the player gains experience points, he can increase the character's characteristics and discover new abilities for him, thereby making it easier for himself to explore the world.
After the release, Fallout 3 received extremely positive reviews from critics and a number of "Game of the Year" awards from various publications, and in subsequent years Fallout 3 was included in the lists of the best games in history. Critics received special praise for the open world of the game and the flexible character development system; at the same time, reviewers pointed out technical errors, especially painful in the versions for game consoles [⇨]. The game was a huge commercial success; only in the first month after its release, 610 thousand copies of the game were sold, and by 2015, total sales of Fallout 3 on all platforms exceeded 12.4 million copies. In some countries, like Australia, India and Japan, the game has been self-censored for various reasons, whether it is the depiction of drug use or nuclear weapons in the game.
