Flow Neuroscience is a Sweden-based medical device company that has a focus on creating products to treat depression. Founded in 2016 by Daniel Mansson and Erik Rehn, the company's stated mission is to research and design therapeutics for depression using psychology, neuroscience, and technology. Its product has a CE marking and is approved for medical use in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The company's product is to be used as a hardware and software combination. The hardware consists of a wireless headset that delivers brain stimulation in the form of placid electrical signals called Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). Users engaged in the program receive 18 stimulation sessions over the course of six weeks.
The software is available via mobile application for Android and iOS and is what controls the headset. While receiving the stimulation, the user participates in virtual behavioral therapy using the app. Some topics that are included in the therapy include how to improve sleep, nutrition, and exercise. There is also the option to participate in a meditation module.
