Frank Kameny (born May 21, 1925, in New York City was an American astronomer and a prominent figure in the fight for LGBTQ rights. He studied at Queens College, City University of New York and held citizenship in the United States. Kameny died on October 11, 2011, in Washington, D.C.. As a person in the public eye, his contributions to both the world of astronomy and the LGBTQ rights movement were notable.
