Frederick V of the Palatinate (born August 26, 1596, died November 29, 1632) was a German politician, aristocrat, and elector. He held the official title of Frederick IV and was also known by the nickname Frederick the Righteous. Born in Rhineland-Palatinate as Friedrich Der Aufrichtige, he was the surviving son of Frederick IV, Elector Palatine, and Princess Louise of Orange-Nassau. Frederick was the founder of Hortus Palatinus.
Frederick V was the father of several prominent children, including Henry Frederick, Hereditary Prince of the Palatinate, Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine, Elizabeth of the Palatinate, Edward, Count Palatine of Simmern, Prince Rupert of the Rhine, Louise Hollandine of the Palatinate, and Sophia of Hanover.
In addition, he was the father of Henriette Marie of the Palatinate, Philip Frederick of the Palatinate, Charlotte of the Palatinate (1628–1631), Gustavus Adolphus of the Palatinate, and Maurice of the Palatinate.
Frederick V passed away in Mainz at the age of 36.
