Frenkie de Jong (born May 12, 1997 in Arkel, the Netherlands) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a midfielder for Barcelona and the Netherlands national team.
De Jong is a graduate of Willem II, but at the age of 17 he moved to Ajax for 1 euro. In the first season with the Amsterdam team, he was recognized as the main talent of the Eredivisie 2016/17. Since the 2017/18 season, he has been a key player in Ajax, in the 2018/19 season he went with the club from the third qualifying round to the semi-finals of the Champions League. However, already in January he was sold to Barcelona - the deal is estimated at 75 million euros.
In the junior and youth squads of the Netherlands national team, he played only 22 matches, since from the age of 20 he began to be actively involved in matches for the main Oranje team. Helped the Netherlands reach the final of the first ever Nations League. Due to his position on the field and his playing style, de Jong has been compared to the legendary Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer.
