Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) was a German writer, poet, philosopher, historian, and playwright. He was born in Marbach am Neckar and held citizenship in the Duchy of Württemberg. Schiller was educated at Karlsschule Stuttgart and the University of Jena. His doctoral advisor was Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner.
Over his career, Schiller held various occupations including poet, philosopher, historian, librarian, physician writer, playwright, novelist, and journalist. He wrote in genres such as ballads and plays for the theatre.
Some of his most notable works include "Don Carlos", "The Robbers", "Intrigue and Love", "Wallenstein" (a trilogy of plays), "Die Huldigung der Künste", and "On the Aesthetic Education of Man". Schiller passed away in Weimar at the age of 45.
