Fritz Machlup (15 December 1902 – 30 January 1983) was an economist born in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. He held dual citizenship in the United States and Austria. Machlup was educated at the University of Vienna, where he studied under his doctoral advisor Ludwig von Mises. Throughout his career, Machlup taught several doctoral students, including Merton Miller, Edith Penrose, and Robert Eisner. He passed away in Princeton, New Jersey.
