Sergei Ivanovich Furgal (born February 12, 1970, Poyarkovo, Amur Region) is a Russian politician and statesman. Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory (September 28, 2018 - July 20, 2020).
Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the V, VI, VII convocations (2007-2018). Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the VI convocation on health protection (2015-2016), in the VII convocation he served as the first deputy chairman of the committee (2016-2018)Go to the section "Deputy of the State Duma". Deputy of the Legislative Duma of the Khabarovsk Territory of the IV convocation on a non-permanent basis (2005-2007).
On July 20, 2020, he was dismissed by Vladimir Putin from the post of governor of the Khabarovsk Territory due to the loss of confidence of the President of Russia. Previously, he was detained by law enforcement agencies in Khabarovsk, then arrested by the Basmanny District Court of Moscow on charges of organizing murders and attempted murders, committed, according to investigators, in 2004-2005. Furgal's arrest caused a wide public outcry in Russia and thousands of rallies in Khabarovsk and other cities of the Khabarovsk Territory.
