GENCODE is an encyclopedia of human genes and gene variants which are used as a reference by ENCODE consortium and by other projects such as Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), NIH Roadmap Epigenomics Mapping Consortium, Blueprint Epigenome Project, Exome Aggregation Consortium (EXAC), Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD), 1000 Genomes Project and the Human Cell Atlas (HCA). The GENCODE project, conducted by The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, recieved funding from the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The GENCODE consortium identifies and annotates gene features in the human genome.
