Gabriel Lippmann was born on August 16, 1845, in Bonnevoie, Luxembourg . He was a physicist , photographer , and professor who held French citizenship . Lippmann is known for his work in Lippmann photography, the Lippmann electrometer, electrowetting, integral photography, and the converse piezoelectric effect . He specialized in the academic discipline of physics .
Lippmann was educated at Lycée Henri-IV and the University of Paris . He had notable doctoral students, including Marie Curie , Pierre Curie , and Paul Langevin , as well as a doctoral advisor, Hermann von Helmholtz .
In 1908, Lippmann received the Nobel Prize in Physics . He passed away on July 13, 1921, in the Atlantic Ocean .
