Ganesh Prasad Rijal (11 May 1920 – 4 April 1998) was a Nepali politician who actively participated in the 1951 democratic revolution of Nepal. In 1959, he was elected as a member of parliament representing the Ilam district.
However, on 15 December 1960, King Mahendra took decisive actions by suspending the constitution, dissolving the elected parliament, dismissing the cabinet, and imposing direct rule. This led to the imprisonment of the then Prime Minister Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and his closest government colleagues. In the aftermath of the coup, Rijal, along with other leaders and members of the Nepali Congress party, was exiled to India. During his time in exile, he lived in Kalimpong and Naxalbari in the Indian state of West Bengal.
In 1975, following a government amnesty, Ganesh Prasad Rijal returned to his homeland and resumed his political career. He split his time between residing in Damak and Kathmandu.
Rijal passed away on 4 April 1998 in Damak, Jhapa district, Nepal, due to cardiac arrest.
