Garden Protein International offers a product line of animal-free meat alternatives under the brand name Gardein. Gardein offers a large variety of meat-free and dairy free products under 6 product lines: beefless, chick'n, fishless, gluten-free, pocket meals, and skillet meals. The parent company of the Gardein product line, Garden Protein International, was founded in 2003 by Yves Potvin, and the company is operating out of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. On November 14, 2014, Gardein was acquired by Pinnacle Foods for $175,000,000 CAD and was expected to generate $65,000,000 in net sales during the year of 2014.
Gardein creates meat alternatives by making vegetables into products that mimic textures found in meat products. They use a proprietary manufacturing process that makes meat-like fibers and plant-based meat alternatives out of plant proteins (soy, wheat, pea), organic flours (kamut, amaranth, millet, and quinoa), carrots, beets, potatoes, and modified vegetable gum. As of July 1, 2013, all frozen Gardein products are kosher and certified by the Orthodox Rabbinical Council of BC Canada.
