Gene Amdahl was born on November 16, 1922, in Flandreau, South Dakota. He was a physicist, engineer, computer scientist, and businessperson. Amdahl held citizenship in the United States and passed away on November 10, 2015, in Palo Alto, California.
Amdahl received education from both South Dakota State University and the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His doctoral advisor was Robert G. Sachs. One of his notable works is Amdahl's law.
In addition to his academic contributions, Amdahl then went on to found Amdahl Corporation, a computer manufacturing company.
