Ali Asgar Kagzi is the co-founder of Genext Students along with Asad Daud. They conceived the idea of an ed-tech startup while they were studying in London School of Economics. In 2013 they launched Genext Students. At the initial stage, they provided only Website & mobile app based educational study content but soon realized that parents and students needed personal tutors or educators who were able to impart quality knowledge more than content. In April 2016, they added a new feature of finding a tutor, that can provide personal home-styled tutoring, pivoting the business model to Hybrid Learning (Online as well as Offline).
Since the pivot in business model, Genext Students claims to have created over 6,000 Genext Tutorpreneurs (a combination of tutors who are also entrepreneurs) across the cities they are present in; these tutors cum teachers are selected according to a rigid selection process. An estimate of over 55,000 tutoring sessions is set to be completed by April 2018. They also have over 1.4 million digital content users across India & Middle East.
Tutors are selected according to the requirements placed by parents post which the AI searches and shortlists top & matching profiles as per the queries and requirements. AI assistance is used to filter out tutor profiles that are not relevant or suitable. It is also used for ranking & rating tutor profiles for better student-parent-tutor mapping.
The data gathered by assessment is used to analyze trends to provide personalized content, lesson plans and analysis. Teacher training programs and mentorship programs are also conducted from time to time.
In August 2016, it raised Rs 1.4 crore from 1Crowd, an equity crowdfunding platform. Subsequently, in May 2017, it raised Rs 3.75 crores ($5,80,000) in its pre-Series A funding round from undisclosed investors.
