Giovanni Boccaccio (born June 17, 1313, in Certaldo; died December 21, 1375, in Certaldo) was a poet, diplomat, lyricist, writer, and translator from the Republic of Florence. Boccaccio is best known for his notable works, The Decameron, and Elegia di Madonna Fiammetta.
