Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712) was a mathematician, astronomer, engineer, and biologist from Perinaldo, France. Cassini studied at the University of Bologna and Panzano Observatory. He was a doctoral student of Giovanni Battista Riccioli and later had his own doctoral student, Jacques Cassini, who was also his child.
Cassini died in Paris, France, on September 14, 1712. He made significant contributions to the fields of mathematics, astronomy, engineering, and biology during his lifetime, and his work continues to impact these fields today.
