Gore-Tex is a membrane in the form of the thinnest fluoroplastic film with micropore. Its holes are so small that no dirt is clogged, serve as a barrier for water, but let the water vapor pass. It is created, that the legs are not sweated and not frozen.
Before the appearance of membranes in clothes and shoes used various waterproof and impermeable materials, but none of them could lead out the evaporation from the human body. So things would get wet from the inside, especially during active physical activity.
Climate membranes suitable for clothing and footwear came from the experiments of Bob Horus , son of W. L. Gore founder Bill Horus. During his experiments he studied the properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, PTFE), better known in the modern world under the name «Teflon». This polymer was invented by DuPont back in 1938, but by the late 1960s and 1970s it remained a relatively new material for industry.
