Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL), is an organization of independent audit, tax, and advisory firms, headquartered in London. GTIL is a global network of member firms based in 130 countries with 58,000 employees. Member firms carry the Grant Thornton name, either exclusively or as part of their national practice names. They have a number of rights and obligations as a result of their membership of Grant Thornton International Ltd . GTIL and the member firms are not a worldwide partnership, GTIL and each member firm is a separate legal entity. Services are delivered by the member firms. GTIL does not provide services to clients.

Grant Thornton International was formed in 1980 when Alexander Grant & Co. joined with Thornton Baker and forty-eight other accounting firms to form a global organization. Following a merger with the Denver-based Fox & Co in 1985, it became the ninth-largest accounting firm in the United States. In 1986 Alexander Grant & Co., Thornton Baker, and the other firms in the organization changed their names to Grant Thornton.
